21/12/11 ST GABRIELS AWARDS NIGHT St Gabriels gaa club held their celebrity tea party for underage presentations on friday night last in haydons hotel. The night was a great success with Jimmy Connelly compering the event. Guests on the night were Tommy Kelly, president of Coiste peil na nog, James Shaughnessy, Ballinasloe, Tom Newell, Kilconly, Tadgh O'Conghaile, PRO of the county board, Larry Lohan, Assistant Secretary of Coiste Peil na nog. The U13, U14 & U15 victorious teams were presented with their medals and trophies on the night. The list of awards was as follows-  U12 player of the year award went to Donal Mannion. U13 player of the year went to Danny Reddan. U13 most improved player was Rory Barrett.  U14 player of the year award went to Aidan Grenham.  U14 most improved players went to Niall Martin and Ethan Molloy, U15 Player of the year went to Jarlath Mannion. U15 most improved player went to Gary Connelly. The Juvenile player of the year went to Cathal Riddle. Hubert Burke the U16 manager presented Sean Collins with the U16 player of the year award. The under 14 boys who represented st gabriels at county level were presented with jerseys, they were Michael O'Rourke, Darren Kenny & Aaron Duane & Gary Connelly at U15 level. The parents of the players made a presentation to Caroline and Mike Malone for their hard work with this team. The mentors Noel Kelly, P.J. Jennings and Bosco Riddle were presented with trophies also. Thanks to Patricia Kenny our Photographer, who did a fantastic job. The boys and girls had a great night at the disco afterwards. Tadhg O' Conghaile addressed the crowd and congratulated st gabriels on their achievements on the field in the past year and wished them well in the future.

20/12/11 ST GABRIELS MENTIONED IN GALWAY GAA ANNUAL 2011 St Gabriels GAA Club features on page 77 of the Galway gaa annual 2011 where the club got a page write up on their successful performances on the field in the last year, which featured the gertie kelly cup, u13, u14 & u15 success's. The book can be purchased in all good newagents.

30/11/11 MEDAL PRESENTATION NIGHT The St Gabriels presentation night for underage winning teams will take place on Friday the 9th of December in Haydens Hotel, Ballinasloe. There will be a celebration tea party with a band for the adults and afterwards a disco for the juveniles. The presentation will commence at 7.30pm sharp. Tickets are currently on sale at e10 a ticket and are available from any parents of the U13, U14 & U15 teams. 21/11/11 JUVENILE CLUB OF THE YEAR AWARD St Gabriels GAA club have won underage club of the year, congratulations to everyone in the club and to all teams, managers and mentors who participated and contributed this season. 12/11/11 BIG FUNDRAISER ON SUNDAY Dont forget that St Gabriels Kilconnell GAA Grounds will be holding a combined Jumble Sale, Monster Auction & Cake Sale this coming Sunday 13th November from 1pm. 07/11/11 ST GABRIELS U13'S DIM TUAM STARS LIGHTS St Gabriels u13’s defeated Tuam All Stars in the north board league final in Williamstown last Saturday. St Gabriels boys were leading throughout the match with a final score of 3g 7pts to 2g 6pts. Captain Dan Reddan accepted the cup on behalf of St Gabriels from Larry Lohan. Coiste peil na nOg and thanked manager Mike Malone and P.J. Jennings for their commitment. Well done to this talented team who have had a great year winning both u13 titles and helped win both u14 titles. 29/10/11 U15's QUALIFY FOR FINAL St Gabriels u15's qualified for the u15 league final after a great game of football in Kilconnell pitch on Wednesday 26th of October against Kilconly. Well done lads, Mike Malone and mentors best of luck in final which will be played next week against Kilconly.

28/10/11 U15 MATCH SUMMARY'S After St Gabriels u15 team drew with Ballinasloe at 2g & 9pts each in their game a few weeks ago, they went on to meet Caltra on sunday morning 23rd of october in Kilconnell pitch. The home team got off to a great start with Jarlath Mannion scoring two goals in quick succession to settle the team with the whole team playing some great football in extremely wet conditions and picking off great scores. St Gabriels went on to be worthy winners and went on to play Kilconly in the League semi final.

18/10/11 U13'S & U15'S GO FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH St Gabriels u13's are through to an u13 north league final after defeating Glenamaddy in Glenamaddy on sunday evening 17th of october. They gave a great display of football and were outright winners with the final score being st gabriels 5g 7pts to glenamaddy 3 pts. Well done mike malone, mentors and this panel of players keep up the good work and bring home the cup. They will be against tuam and the match is to be played this Thursday @7pm in Glenamaddy. ALL SUPPORT WELCOME St Gabriels u15's defeated Annaghdown away in Annaghdown on sunday morning 17th of october with the final score st gabriels 1g 9pts to annaghdown 1g 3pts in their league game. 17/10/11 ST GABRIELS U8 BLITZ St Gabriels annual under 8 blitz was held on saturday 15th of october 2011 in Kilconnell pitch. Four clubs participated in this years competition they were Mountbellew, Loughrea, Caltra & St Gabriels.   Each team played three games and St Gabriels were the only team not to be beaten on the day. Over 60 players entertained and frustrated managers and onlookers alike during three hours of spirited football. Each player was presented with a medal by St Gabriels u8 manager Pierce Mulry who thanked the clubs players, managers, trainers, referees, parents & helpers for making this years blitz such a success. Pierce also thanked his trainers Mike Finn and Shane Martin but saved his biggest thanks of all for his u8 players and their unbridled enthusiasm during the year. Looking forward to seeing them all again when the new season starts in 2012.

11/10/11 U13 & U15 BOYS NEWS St Gabriels u13 boys play Mountbellew/Moylough in Kilconnell pitch on tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the u13 quarter final of the league. Best of luck lads. St Gabriels u15's defeated Williamstown in Kilconnell on sunday last in an U15 league game. While Williamstown lead for most of the match but St Gabriels upped their game and won by 5pts. Well done lads on another terrific performance.

09/10/11 MORE COUNTY RECOGNITION FOR GABRIELS PLAYER Well done and congratulations to Gary Connelly who represented St Gabriels GAA club on saturday last in Milltown, Tuam where he played with Galway u15's against Kerry. 05/10/11 FUNDRAISER CAKE SALE COMES TO AUGHRIM St Gabriels GAA Football Club's U13 & U14 teams are asking ALL their parents & guardians to come together to do a Cake Sale in Aughrim hall this coming Saturday the 15th October after Mass. 16/09/11 WHAT.......YET ANOTHER FINAL St Gabriels u13's booked a place in the u13 League Final with Corofin after defeating Craughwell and Caherlistrane in away games and defeating Tuam Stars on friday last and claregalway on sunday last. First up is Roy Maguires Minors Gabriels panel versus Killerrerin this evening in Clonberne in the Championship. Then our U8's & U10's play a match in Moylough @7pm on Thursday evening players to meet in Kilconnell @6pm. U14's will also play in a Championship Quarter Final versus Ballinasloe scheduled for friday evening in Ballinasloe with a 7pm Throw In and finally Sean Leonards Junior A team are away to Mountbellew on Saturday 23rd July @7pm. All players requested to meet in Mountbellew for 6.30pm at the latest.

20/07/11 CUL CAMP AN ENJOYABLE SUCCESS  The St Gabriels football CUL camp was held last week in Kilconnell pitch and was attended by over 40 boys and girls. A very enjoyable week was had by all and was added to in no small way by the beautiful weather. Thanks to our coaches Seamus Lawlor, Aoife Reily, Aoife Fallon, Garry Sweeney, Alan Lohan and head coach Elaine Sullivan. Altogether a fantastic week for the children and adults alike. Thank you to all for participating.

14/07/11 ST GABRIELS CLUB LOTTO  The Lotto was held in giblins bar on monday 11th july the lotto numbers drawn were 2, 5, 12, & 21. The five lucky dip winners were Brigid Mullins, William Sinclair, Sean Kenny, Rachael Lyons, James Barry. The sellers prize was won by Seamus Coughlan. 20/05/11 GREAT NIGHT TONIGHT Traditional Group Cairde Ceol will be having their monthly session in Brodericks Bar in Kilconnell tonight Friday 20th May. On the night there will be a fundraiser raffle for Cancer Care West, the new partner for Galway Football. Come along for a fun night of music GUARANTEED!!! First prize in the raffle is a signed Galway Jersey with many others prizes. The All Ireland U21 Trophy will be on display and members of the panel will be in attendance.

Initiative to help GAA Members gain employment.     The ICBE Begin Again Programme was launched in 2010 and has already placed over 400 unemployed people in work placements. So far, over 240 of these have now returned to employment!  Galway GAA is working with the ICBE Begin Again Programme with the view to provide work placements for members of the GAA.  Possible opportunities exist in the following areas:  ·         Coaching. ·         Health & Safety. ·         Manual Direct Labour. ·         Communications and Public Relations. ·         Strategic Planning. ·         And several other areas as would be identified by GAA Clubs.  There could also be an opportunity to access placements that exist in the wider business community.  The ICBE Begin Again programme provides participants with the opportunity to partake in a highly targeted and relevant work placement which is proven to be of great benefit and assistance in helping participants secure employment. The Programme is a mix of training, mentoring and project work.  Funded by the Labour Market Activation Fund, the Begin Again programme has enabled people who were experiencing both short term and long term unemployment gain that crucial foothold back into the workforce. To date more than 60% of participants have obtained employment, 19% have gained self employment or contracts with a further 5% re-entering the education system.  All participants taking part in the GAA / Begin Again programme must have availed of unemployment assistance from the Social Welfare for the period of three months. 04/05/11 ST GABRIELS GAA SPONSORED WALK St Gabriel's held their sponsored walk for the building fund on bank holiday Monday 2nd of May. A crowd of 60 gathered at 2p.m. in Kilconnell pitch. Larry Lohan led the crowd onto the road in his car and did a great job leading the group safely on to the roadway. The group walked down the Calla road and were treated to very welcome drinks and barbeque at Calla Lake. On a lovely sunny day the crowd really enjoyed it. Thanks to our head chef Timmy Broderick and assistant chef Sean Kenny. Thanks to Gerry Mannion for helping out also at the barbeque. The crowd walked on to Trust and back up to Kilconnell. Thanks to Brendan Malone for providing transport for all the small children who took a well earned break at times. The group finished the walk at Kilconnell pitch. Thanks to all who took the time to take part and support their club. Thanks to St Gabriel's ladies club who turned out in great numbers also. 22/04/11 MONSTER BINGO PROVES A BIG HIT St Gabriels held their Monster Bingo in the Shearwater Hotel on Sunday 10th of April at 3p.m. A great success and well done to all who helped out and who came along and supported their club once again. Thanks to all the bingo goers who travelled from as far as Derry, Ferbane, Tullamore and Carrick-on-Shannon and also a bus travelled from Carraroe. With 627 bingo players seated there was great excitement with a C1 Citroen car as the jackpot prize. Mr John Joe Fahy of Portumna won the car. Congratulations to him and best of luck to him driving it. Sharon Faherty of Loughrea won a Mountain bike on the fly over sheet and Niamh Donnellan of Kilconnell won a mountain bike in the raffle. Thanks to Dougie Quinn, Loughrea who called the numbers out. We are very thankful to him, he did a great job. A presentation was also made to Mark Loughnane for his performance in the Galway County minor team last year. Thanks to Stephen Creaven for the great disco music. A presentation was made to ex chairman Jimmy Connelly. The chairman Padraig Donnellan urged everyone in the club to support the upcoming sponsored walk and monster bingo the two fund raisers of the club so the new sports centre could be opened this year.   Thanks to all who gave spot prizes. 12/03/11 LATEST WALK DETAILS The sponsored walk for the Sports Centre Building fund will now take place on Monday 2nd of May. It will be a local walk of approximately 10 kilometres. Everyone is invited to participate.   Anyone unable to do the walk is encouraged to sponsor a family member or neighbour. We would hope the walk would be a fun event for all concerned. There willbe refreshments after the walk for all participants in the sports centre. Your support would be gratefully appreciated. The sports centre when opened has the potential to be the focal point of the area. Sponsorship cards will be available next week. 21/02/11 ST GABRIELS G.A.A CLUB NEWS St gabriels club lotto jackpot is now €11,100.00. The lotto draw was held in the Auld Shillelagh, Aughrim on Monday 21st of February details soon. Thanks to everyone who organized, helped out and supported the poker classic held last week. It was a great success. This year all ladies in the area are invited to participate in the Womens mini marathon in Dublin on Monday June 6th to raise funds for the clubs sport centre. 18/02/11 DYLAN MURRAY GETS SELECTED Congratulations to Dylan Murray of St Gabriels who was selected to play on the Galway Vocational Schools senior football team. Galway played against Leitrim in the Connacht final on the 7th February in Dromad, County Leitrim. After a compelling and exciting game Galway won the match to retain the Connacht cup. They will now face a strong Cork side in the All Ireland Vocational School Inter County Senior Football Semi Final on Friday 18th February at 7 o'clock under lights in Mallow, County Cork. Well done to Dylan on his selection.

24/01/11 NEW PLAYER PANELS COMING SOON    With registration having taken place over the weekend we will shortly be publishing our all new St Gabriels Player Panels for 2011 soon. Lists are published alphabetically each season. U12's Indoor Football Training will from now on take place on Tuesdays from 7pm til 8pm and St Gabriels Juniors/U21 training will be taking place this Wednesday @8pm on the Kilconnell pitch. This session will be taken by new trainer Martin Collins. Welcome to Martin and new Juniors and U21 manager Sean Leonard.

19/12/10 AGM DETAILS ANNOUNCED ST GABRIELS G.A.A. club held it's A.G.M on Sunday 12/12/10 in St Gabriels Clubhouse at 3 p.m.  Jimmy Connelly outgoing chairman welcomed the crowd and congratulated all Managers and Teams on their performance  over the past year. 29/10/10 U13 SEMI FINAL VENUE & THROW IN TIME CHANGED St Gabriels Under 13's will now play their Semi Final versus Headford at BrownsGrove home of Cortoon Shamrocks (near Tuam). The new time for Throw in is now set for 4pm. Please tell all!

28/10/10 U13 SEMI FINAL REPLAY Mike Malone's Under 13's are back in action on Friday 29th October in their replay in Glenamaddy which is on at 5 p.m. Come out and support your local team. For their first match report which ended in a draw please see our Match reports section.

21/10/10 A FINAL VICTORY OF TRUE GRIT & ENDURANCE Seamus Coughlans charges were in action last sunday in the U16 County Football Final versus rivals Kilconly, after an early onslaught St Gabriels worked their way into the game and brought home the Cup. 20/10/10 U8, U11 & U13 MATCH UPDATES & SUMMARIES   ST GABRIELS hosted an U8 blitz on Saturday last. In glorious sunshine the four teams,  Menlough,  Loughrea, Caltra and St Gabriels had a great day playing football. Many Thanks to all  who helped out on the day and provided refreshments. 13/10/10 COUNTY FINAL DATE SET The U16's will play their County Final match versus Kilconly this coming weekend in Monivea on Sunday 17th October 2010. The match is set for an 11.30 am Throw In and all fans are encouraged to come out and support the team and attend in full club colours. This represents an ideal opportunity for St Gabriels to get their hands on silverware this season. So good luck to all players and the management team in what promises to be an exciting football match.

11/10/10 U16'S GO THROUGH TO FINAL NEXT WEEK Seamus Coughlans U16 panel gave a storming second half performance to power through to an U16 final against Kilconly next week, this had looked unlikely in the early stages of the match. But a storming come back was the order of the day as St Gabriels brought the game to St Brendans in Ballygar. To read a match summarry please see our Match Reports Section.

10/10/10 THE 1ST ST GABRIELS  ANNUAL TRAMPS BALL Was held in the Auld Shillelagh on Saturday 9th of October. It was a combined night for Ladies and Gents St Gabriels g.a.a. club. It was a very enjoyable and entertaining night. The night started with the Best dressed tramp ladies and gents category. Padraig Donnellan won the best dressed tramp and Betty Mitchell won the Best lady tramp. Well done to them and all the tramps that turned out on the night and made such an effort. Well done to our lady judges for doing their job. Tom McLoughlin the compere did a great job and thanks to him for helping out. Thanks to all who sponsored a prize for our raffle and who helped out at the auction. Thanks to Noel Kelly on the night for doing a great job as Auctioneer. Thanks to everyone in the Ladies and Gents club who purchased a ticket .

05/10/10 SCHOOLBOYS ON THEIR WAY TO FINAL  St Gabriels National School boys took part in the cumann na bunscoil blitz in cappatagle on wednesday 29th of october. They played Ballinasloe, Portumna and Castle French national schools and won the three football matches and are through to the final in Claregalway. Well done lads on your performance and best of luck in the final.

03/10/10 ST GABRIELS GAA TRAMPS BALL FUNDRAISER St Gabriels Ladies and Mens GAA clubs are holding a joint fundraiser for development work in Aughrim Pitch in the Auld Shillelagh, Aughrim on Saturday 9th of October. It is a themed Tramps Ball. Novelty events, spot prizes and music are all on offer. All Are Welcome. Tickets €5 from all club officers.

28/09/10 U10's DO WELL IN PA JORDAN MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT A very successful tournament and a few good games to boot were the order of the day when Pierce Mullery's u10 Panel made the trip to Monivea for the annual PA JORDAN MEMORIAL tournament last week. 19/09/10 UNDER 13's WIN A HARD FOUGHT MATCH St Gabriels Under 13 panel had a fantastic and hard fought win over Williamstown on Sunday to read a summary please see our match reports for 2010.

08/09/10 NOTE ON U12 PERFORMANCES The U12A team played athenry on sunday 22nd of august in aughrim at 11 am. The team played extremely well and won the game at a canter, an assured performance from a team that is gelling well together. THE U12B team played Clarinbridge after the U12A team in aughrim at 11.30 am and after a great and hard working performance in a very exciting game St Gabriels narrowly lost by 3 points, an indication perhaps of the potential in this panel of players. St Gabriels U12B team played caherlistrane in Aughrim pitch on friday 27th of august, Caherlistrane started the better team and were leading by 1g 1pt to St Gabriels 1pt but by half time St Gabriels had fought back and had a good lead and continued to play great football and won the game convincingly. Well done lads keep up the good work.
